Marriage Ministry, who needs it?

Ministry can be very hard work. It may not look hard to some, but for anyone who has worked in ministry, you know what I’m saying is true. The long hours and often long commutes would be hard enough, but then the emotional drain of helping hurting people and the work that goes into leadership can be overwhelming sometimes. It’s no wonder there is a high rate of burnout and turnover in the ranks of ministers.

Over the years I have worked in ministry in a number of different ways. Now over these last five years Janet and I have been focused on marriage ministry, first at our home church teaching a Marriage Builders class and helping couples privately, and now reaching a much larger audience with our marriage blog. And again I can tell you it has been both a privilege and hard work at the same time.

So why do we do it?

Jesus said, Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.”

And if it would be alright, I would take some liberty with this verse and say, “my marriage was in trouble and you helped me rebuild it.”

So it’s simple. The need is there and the need is so great.

Starting today and for the next 12 days, we will be posting a new blog post everyday. So we thought we would first jump in with our thoughts on why marriage ministry is so important to us and why we believe it should be important to a large number of marriages out there.

Thanks Debi. We are glad to be on the same team working together for what God wants to do in marriages.

  1. Amen! I only wish more people would recognize our need for marriage ministry! I want churches all over America, heck all over the world to start being serious about marriage! What do you think would happen if every church that had a youth pastor had a marriage pastor? I’m not saying youth isn’t important, they are! But where are the champions of marriage in the local church?

thanks for being a marriage ministry cheer leader! Blessings to you both!

Amen to that OFM. Now your preaching!! We have always said the same thing. It is our belief that if marriage ministry were made more important then youth ministry would have less of a burden. We also believe that if there is a AAA meeting in just about every town then there should be a Marriage Builders class in every town. Just saying. Thanks for all you do and thanks for the comment. Blessings to the two of you as well!!
