Book: 25 Questions … About Love, Sex, and Intimacy

Book review: 25 Questions You’re Afraid to Ask About Love, Sex, and Intimacy, by Dr. Juli Slattery

25 questions

We first heard Dr. Slattery speaking as a co-host on Focus on the Family. So when we were asked to read and write a review for her new book our immediate reaction was, “absolutely, we would be honored.” We felt very confident that whatever she had to say about marriage would be well worth our time of reading and would definitely be something we would recommend to our readers.

I (Janet) read this book because it is addressed toward women. And after two days of reading and not wanting to put the book down, I can say with 100% confidence we will be recommending this book. This book was a game changer for me in many ways. My highlights and marks are on just about every page. I kept telling my husband we could pull so many good things from this book to use when we are talking to couples.

Dr. Juli Slattery is so refreshing. She speaks truth and lays to rest questions with answers from the word of God. I love her boldness, honesty, and just plain black and white truth.

One of the highlights I marked was in a section called “A call to sexual discipleship.”  Where I marked these words;

“Let me ask you a personal question. Is God Lord of your sexuality? If someone were to look solely at your sexuality, would there be evidence that Jesus Christ is your savior and Lord?”

“A follower of Christ intentionally sets his or her mind on what the Spirit desires, not what the flesh demands. Sexual discipleship means that you are willing to yield this very personal and vulnerable area of your life completely to the Lord, trusting that His ways are good.”

That is just one example of the many more examples of truth she packs into this powerful book.

In each of the 25 chapters she covers a different question. Questions like number 1, “What’s the big deal about sex?” Question 6, “Why do guys care so much about sex?” Question 11, “How do I get past my shame?” Question 15, “What if I’m attracted to someone else?” And question 20, “How do I rebuild trust after a betrayal?” She covers it all. So much so that I have no doubt that anyone who picks up this book and reads it will find something in it that speaks to their own life.
