One of the hardest things to do in a marriage is to keep doing the right thing even when you feel it is getting you nowhere. But here in this verse which is at the beginning of the Lord’s prayer there is a nugget of truth that I believe can help anyone who needs encouragement to keep pressing on.

The key to this truth is understanding that Jesus taught on His kingdom more than He taught on anything else. And He did not teach that the kingdom was simply that place we call heaven or of a future time when He would establish His kingdom in the earth. No, He taught us the kingdom of God is within us, in the right here and now.

So this kingdom truth for marriage is this; anytime we follow God’s word and we obey His will in our lives, by saying “Your will be done, Your kingdom come,” our obedience will usher in His kingdom into that area of our lives. So whenever we would like to see God’s kingdom operate in our lives such as in our marriage, just simply obeying God’s will gives an open door for His kingdom to operate in that area.

Our obedience to His will is our way of surrendering our own personal kingdom and opening up our world to allow His kingdom to operate. It may not always look like we are getting the results we want or at least getting it as fast as we want. Because the working of God’s will and His kingdom authority always takes place at foundation levels and grows from there. Just like a seed growing up into a tree, God’s kingdom in our lives starts out with a single act of surrender and before you know it the work of His kingdom overshadows everything else.

So even when we do not see immediate results we have to ask ourselves this question: Do we trust the ways of our own personal kingdom for getting things done or do we trust the ways of God’s and His kingdom for bringing results?

I choose to believe, even when it is by pure faith, that the ways of God and His kingdom are always better for my life and will always bring the best results.

So keep obeying His will and doing the things He has instructed you to do and watch His kingdom come and His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
